HR Consulting in Sarasota, Florida
HR support for Sarasota nonprofits and arts organizations, medical practices, hospitality businesses and professional firms of 5 to 100 employees — remote for the everyday, on-site from St. Petersburg when it counts.
The cultural capital of the coast, and a nonprofit town at heart.

Sarasota is the largest city south of the bay and the one with the most distinct character: a coastal city whose economy runs on arts and culture, tourism, healthcare and the professional firms that serve an affluent, older population. That gives it a nonprofit sector out of proportion to its size — museums, theaters, the opera and ballet, foundations and social-service agencies — alongside medical and specialty practices around Sarasota Memorial, the hotels, restaurants and outfitters feeding Siesta Key and St. Armands, and the law, wealth-management and advisory firms along Main Street and the bayfront.
The HR problems are the problems of mission-driven and service organizations. Nonprofits where the executive director is the HR department and the board has opinions about personnel policy. Practices where the office manager handles hiring between patients. Hospitality teams with tipped staff, seasonal swings and high turnover. And firms built around a few senior people who have never had to manage anyone through a performance problem.
Sarasota is about 50 minutes from my St. Petersburg base down I-275 and I-75, so most of my work with Sarasota organizations runs by phone, email and video, with on-site visits for first meetings, board sessions, investigations, terminations and training. Sarasota County has no employment ordinances of its own, so Florida and federal law are what we work from — and the nonprofit-specific rules on volunteers, interns and grant-funded positions are where most of the questions land.
Remote most weeks. On-site for boards, investigations and training.
Remote
Most Sarasota clients work with me by phone, email and video: handbooks, compliance reviews, volunteer and intern policies, grant-funded position questions and the issues that come up every week.
On-site
First meetings, board sessions, investigations, terminations and training happen at your office. Plan on scheduling a week or so out; urgent employee issues sooner.
Nonprofits, arts organizations, practices, hospitality, and firms.
Companies of 5 to 100 employees. Not on the list? The seven services work the same in any industry.
Everything HR, delivered in Sarasota.
Same seven services as everywhere else. In Sarasota the most common starting points are compliance reviews and handbooks for nonprofits, and outsourced HR for practices and firms.

Serving Sarasota from my base in St. Petersburg, FL.
Yes, for the things that need it: first meetings, board sessions, investigations, terminations and training. Sarasota is about 50 minutes from St. Petersburg, so day-to-day work runs by phone, email and video, and there's no travel charge for the visits.
Yes — they're the largest part of my Sarasota work. Handbooks, volunteer and intern policies, grant-funded positions, executive director and board questions, and the compliance basics a small staff never has time for.
No. Sarasota County has no wage theft or human rights ordinance, so Florida and federal law are the whole rulebook. For Sarasota employers the ones that get missed are Florida's E-Verify requirement at 25 employees and the minimum wage schedule.
Urgent employee issues: a call the same day and on-site within a few days if needed. Projects like a handbook or compliance review: typically within two weeks of our first call.
