Meet Sarah
Hi, I'm Sarah. I've done the HR job — now I do it for you.
SBW HR Consulting is a woman-owned, Florida-based practice for nonprofits, small businesses and startups of 5 to 100 employees across Tampa Bay. I know the limited budgets, the understaffing, and the compliance rules that change every year — because I've managed all of it from the inside.

20+ years solving the HR problems nobody has time for.
I'm an HR executive who has held senior positions in both for-profit and nonprofit organizations. Over two decades I've handled the complex, cumbersome problems — the PEO exits, the workers' comp claims, the 90-day turnover that quietly drains a small team.
A few results I'm proud of: a mentoring program for new hires that cut first-90-day turnover by 35%. A move from a PEO to in-house payroll, benefits and workers' compensation that saved over $38,000 a year. A light-duty return-to-work program that reduced workers' comp premiums 10%.
I started SBW HR Consulting because the companies that need that experience most — the ones with 5 to 100 employees — are exactly the ones that can't justify a full-time HR executive. Whether you need an on-call HR department, full-service HR, help with compliance, or temporary HR leadership, I have the experience to give you the solution you actually need, not the one that's easiest to sell.
Three numbers from inside the job.
Outcomes from HR programs I built and ran in-house before starting the practice.
- 35%
- reduction in first-90-day turnover after a new-hire mentoring program
- $38K
- saved per year moving a client off a PEO to in-house payroll and benefits
- 10%
- cut in workers' comp premiums with a light-duty return-to-work program
People. Purpose. Passion.
People
Long-term partner, not a vendor. I'm in your corner for the whole journey, not just the project.
Purpose
Solutions shaped to your culture and your goals — never a template with your logo on it.
Passion
I genuinely love building HR systems that make workplaces better for the people in them.
Partnership and productivity — in that order.
- 01
I listen first
Before I recommend anything, I want to understand how your business actually runs and what's keeping you up at night.
- 02
I identify what you need
Not what's easiest to sell. Sometimes that's a full HR function; sometimes it's one afternoon fixing your pay practices.
- 03
I build it with you
Policies, processes and training that fit your people and your budget — and that your managers will actually use.

Most clients keep me on call. When the next hard question comes, you already have someone who knows your business.
What clients say
“Sarah has been an incredible resource to me for my clients. She is professional, knowledgeable, timely and, most importantly, cost effective. She is my Human Resource strategic partner.”
“Sarah is a joy to work with — always responsive, helpful, and patient. Hiring SBW HR Consulting is one of the best small business decisions we've ever made.”
Rooted in St. Pete, working across Tampa Bay.
I live and work in St. Petersburg and serve clients across Pinellas, Hillsborough, Pasco, Manatee and Sarasota counties — in person when it matters, remotely when it's easier. See the areas I serve →
Is every engagement a long-term retainer?
No. Most clients work with me on an as-needed or project basis — senior HR expertise without a full-time salary.
Do you work with businesses outside St. Petersburg?
Yes. I serve Clearwater, Largo, Tampa and the wider Tampa Bay area, in person or remotely.
What size company is the right fit for you?
Nonprofits, startups and small businesses from about 5 to 100 employees — big enough to need HR, too small for a department.
Can you cover HR leadership during a transition?
Yes. Temporary HR leadership during a transition or leave is one of the ways I work with clients.
Let's talk about your team.
Call, or send a message — whichever is easier.
